Fitting it All Together Program Guide
Program Description- Fitting it All Together will target up to 4 classrooms per school for a period of three years. It will teach mathematics and literacy through the research-based use of authentic tasks that help students integrate newly acquired concepts with their existing knowledge base. It will use technology-based manipulatives that help students analyze, interpret, and label data/graphs/charts and engage in other tasks that stress understanding, analysis, and the authentic use of technology.
For example, students will use the Wii Fit system, which will help them learn about their Body Mass Index, standard and metric weights, as well as standard and metric measurements. Students will chart Wii Fit data and reflect in their health journal. They will create exercise pod casts and use algebraic formulas to compare and contrast caloric burning rates for a variety of physical activities. Students will also jog/measure their heartbeat using the Garmin Forerunner and other technology tools, write about running strategies, and compare data sets. Finally
, students will research health and nutrition topics, read health-related books, maintain a daily journal, respond to research and literature via blog postings, create a health and nutrition web site, and interpret and chart health-related data.
